I have become obsessed with two things: Reverse appliques and wolves on my clothing.
It is no secret that wolves, specifically werewolves, hold a special little place in my heart. One of my first celebrity crushes was on Quentin Collins from Dark Shadows(THE ORIGINAL). Then came the TV show Big Wolf on Campus, which was campy and fun, and my teenage obsession with the movie Teen Wolf. Ranking in favorite supernatural characters, werewolves take a close second to mermaids, who are my first of course. So when I was at the Punk Rock Flea Market the other day, I may have scored a new wolf shirt to applique on to something. Couldn't score a new dress, though, which makes me sad. Never fear. I'll find something to stick it on.
Since appliqueing this dress it has become one of my go-to pieces. I wear it almost weekly. The ruffle makes me feel girly and the wolf makes me feel a little tough. It's just cute. I would like to get a new belt to mix it up with, but I'm sure I'll find something.
Punk Rock Flea was ok. I had some fun, met up with my friends, but it was really crowded and hot. There were also a lot of vintage clothing vendors and not as many "flea market" type vendors, which meant a lot of things were overpriced. I saw a denim jacket I wanted so bad- it was so faded it was almost white and it had black lace on the shoulders, but it was $20. I could make one for $20. I guess that is my problem though. Lately I've set a rule - I cannot buy anything I could or would make. I would embellish a denim jacket, so I let it go. The only thing I spent money on other than food was a 5 for $20 tee shirt deal and I only sorted through to find 5 shirts because the first one I found was a Jimmy Buffet shirt for my mister. (I knew it when I saw the dates that was the tour he saw them on, and he confirmed when I got home. He liked it.)
I will go back for the winter one, since that was pretty awesome, but I'm not sure I'll hit up the spring one again. I even tried to buy something yesterday and went to Buffalo Exchange- I left empty handed there, too! My friend Brenna is taking me on a thrifting tour of Boston this weekend. I hope I have better luck. :-) Later, alligators!
I love the wolves on your clothing!
ReplyDeletei love your clothes so much. i especially love how you take the coolest part of a shirt and put it on a dress--it always looks so awesome.
ReplyDelete'' Lately I've set a rule - I cannot buy anything I could or would make'' - now that is one exceptional rule. I personally WISH that I had your talent to be able to whip things up!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good rule NOT to buy something I could make...and in fact, a lot of the stuff I see on Pinterest I study to figure out a way to make it. Sorry that the flea market was a bit of a bust...may thrifting prove to be better!
ReplyDeletehis_girl - THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteMouse- Thanks so much. :-) I really appreciate it comin' from a stylish lady like you.
Corrine- The problem with that rule is the loop hole: "Am I too lazy to make this?" ^_~ I'll have to work on that, right?
Terri- Thanks, I've found it pretty handy except for the above loophole. I love Pinterest for inspiration though. I hope that my poor luck this past weekend means a bright thrifting time in Boston. :-)
I love the "I cannot buy anything I could or would make" rule. I'm hoping to be able to do that myself in the future. This wolf dress is gorgeous, and very much your style. I love it. :)
