Personal Style: Saving Emilia

Dress: Handmade, Docs: DIYed, Cardi: Thrifted, Necklace Charm: Etsy

Close Up of My Hair Flower.
WHAT THE HELL IS THIS FACE! :-) It made me laugh so hard I had to share.
This dress was made as a part of my Dream Outfit series and we have had a love/hate relationship ever since. I made it because I loved the Emilia dress talked about in the Weetzie Bat book Necklace of Kisses. I wanted my own version of Emilia, so when I saw this ice blue paisley print that SO reminded me of vintage fabrics, I figured I'd use my Lisette pattern to make a tunic dress!

This was right when I was starting to sew them, so I had to re-do the neckline several times and without a belt it's kind of too big. I tried to put a vest over it, but as much as I did like that look, the dress itself was still a bit of a problem. However, when I saw these photos and how they turned out, with the pop of color from the cardi and the dark tights, I think this dress is a keeper. It is still not quite my favorite, but it's definitely cute. I think I've finally come around to liking it.

Last week on Nearsighted Owl, Rachele pointed out that having a blog schedule really helps out sometimes. So I've constructed a loose blog schedule that hopefully I will manage to stick to. (Side Note: I love her outfit in THIS link up post. The psychedelic skirt, rocker tee and crochet collar made me swoon. How cute is she?)

In addition to some other things I'm mingling in, I'm bringing back Theme Wednesdays in a more sporadic form. There won't be a theme every single Wednesday, but there will definitely be more. Check out past themes in the side bar and stay tuned for this Wednesday's theme.

Until next time!

PS: Here is a collage of the ways I've tried this dress. I just like messing around on PicMonkey

  5. I think the dress looks quite cute. The colors are great, the fit looks comfy and versatile. I know how frustrations can be inflicted on something you made though. Some of my hardest work pieces that turned out okay, are ones I don't like to wear much.

  6. Trees- if it weren't the only butterfly in the bouquet I'd make you one! I'm glad you're looking forward to theme wednesdays- I wondered if anyone would even notice.

    Shybiker- Thank you :-)

Terri- I MISSED YOU!!! I hope your hand is better! :-) These are pretty versatile dresses. I mean, I don't know about wearing them without a belt like I used to, but with a belt or vest they are really cute.

Megan Mae- Thanks! I do love the colors- that icy blue is so bright. It's funny how sometimes frustration when you make something can also leave you with a bad feeling about stuff. Like this weekend I had a dress kill my sewing machine, and while the dress is adorable I just stare at it with my "death stare". (As my boyfriend calls the pissy look on my face sometimes)
