Theme Wednesday: That Fifty Nine Sound

Dress: Handmade/Me, Boots: Mossimo/Gift, Jacket: Market East Gallery

Oh I know what you're thinking! You're like, wait, we've seen that jacket before, you wear it in almost every outfit post. Well... Not quite...

Now you're like, "Did she really just rip up her favorite jacket and put a doily on the back?!" Again, not quite.

The jacket you see me wear every day is one I purchased at DOTS around the holidays. Originally, I was going to make it into a punky, patchy gypsy-bohemian inspired jacket. The problem came when I started to wear it. I really honestly wear that jacket every day and every where. I mean, I love it. It's like a second skin to me, which is how clothing is supposed to be. Alas, I couldn't bring myself to punk it up! What if I ruined it!? So I went back to DOTS to get another jacket.

They didn't have my size. I was SO MAD! It was only a week and a half later! I must have bought the ONLY XL one in the shop!.

Gloomy and bummed out, I walked back to Market East to get the train home. That's when I noticed a display (I'm pretty sure it was a shop called Body Central). Their whole window was FILLED with different cropped jackets, and there in the center was the same one I had! So I went into the shop and bought one! This jacket is a little cheaper quality and material, but that's okay because it was only $14.00 and I'm going to keep adding to it anyway. The only problem was the waist was a little narrower than the one I had already, so I used my denim jacket DIY tutorial and added some remnants of hot pink denim. I'm so excited and I'm already looking at my patch collection to see what I can add to it!

In other news, I FINALLY worked out a pattern that I've been working on FOR MONTHS. I've wanted a peasant style dress that I could use to recycle tees and I've been drafting and drafting and drafting. It's been a chore getting the damn thing right. Finally, with some instructions from a commercial pattern and a large pad of newsprint, I got it "right" over the weekend. I say right because it's still not entirely perfect, and it's probably the ugliest dress ever, but it's very comfy and I like it a lot. Here are some detail shots of the one I made with my Gaslight Anthem tee shirt.

I'm definitely making more. I have a Paris shirt, a Weezer shirt, a Beetles shirt and a Black Eyed Peas shirt that I think should all become dresses. Don't you think? ;-)

Even if you don't think, they are turning into dresses. Just saying.

Finally, here is a close up of the back of the jacket with the gorgeous doily (it's got pink in it!) that I scored at Phantastic Phinds and the hot pink denim which used to be a pair of skinny leg Tripp NYC pants.

I've got a few more jackets lined up for you in the upcoming weeks. I've really enjoyed doing these jacket posts because I've learned a lot about how a jacket can affect your wardrobe.

And I'm going to to yesterday's Inspiration Tuesday post for tomorrow- I've had a terrible head ache the last few days, but I'm pretty sure it's because I need to get my glasses updated. So see you tomorrow!

  2. Cute! I love that you took your t-shirt and made it into a dress! I have so many t-shirts I rarely wear anymore - it's such a fun idea. I also love the way you fancied up this jacket - the back of it is awesome!

  3. Totally rocking dress design!! Love it. And great idea for a jacket. My wardrobe changes immensely when I started wearing jackets. Layering makes a big difference.

Your harness boots are really cool. They look *exactly* like Fryes.

As for glasses - I suggest getting your prescription from your regular eye doctor - but check out goggles4u for glasses! They're a heck of a lot cheaper than buying them elsewhere. I got myself two pairs and two for the DH for less than I paid for one of my pairs from walmart.

  4. That dress is so damn cute! And I love your doily jacket, and those awesome boots! I've been looking back through your blog for inspiration to sew some things for myself now that I'm not pregnant anymore, just so you know. ;)

  5. This dress you made is really funky, I'm totally loving it! Nice work! The dollie on your jacket is pretty sweet too! I have one with a heart with wings and I adore it and can wear it with most things....as soon as it warms a bit back out it comes.

  7. My first thought was "Wow! That's a great outfit!" :-)

I didn't even realize it was a dress until you said so (and you could see the sleeves/whole neckline). I love the optical illusion that it looked like you were wearing a t-shirt and skirt.

"Even if you don't think, they are turning into dresses. Just saying." Damn straight! Do what makes you happy!

Agreed about jackets... I often feel I don't have the right jacket/coat to go with an otherwise perfectly cohesive outfit. It can be frustrating.
